Dear Oprah,

I live in South Africa and I watch your show religiously and I was actually dumb struck by the actors that had roles in the movie “UP IN AIR” of Gearge Clooney. Did not know they were real people that lost there jobs.I lost mine almost a year and half ago when recession hit us and havent been coping so well.I wish I could be in your audience for one of your shows or just come to America and see if I can get work there. You are an inspiration and gives me the drive not to give up.I have been working in the Information Technology field for 23 years and to loose everything just like that is a nightmare come true.

Keep up the good work

Kind regards,

Ebrahim

Alice in Wonderland - a substantive twist to a madcap tale

Not one of my favorite stories as a child (too much pandemonium for my taste), Tim Burton’s retelling is more to my liking. Loved his wife Catherine as the Queen of Hearts and, of course, Johnny Depp is charming as the Mad Hatter. They, along with the young actress portraying Alice, “made” the show. Disney’s magical treatment of the story greatly lent to the fantastic backdrop of characters, scenery and cartoon-like images.

What mattered most for me is that there was a reason for Alice’s journey to Wonderland. She returns to the realm of her dreams in order to restore it to the rightful monarch, the White Queen, portrayed by Anne Hathaway. The story was very believable, in an unbelievable sort of way. Although “off with his or her head” was frequently proclaimed by the Queen of Hearts, there was so much less violence than in most movies these days.

I’ve never enjoyed Alice in Wonderland more than I did this movie. Maybe I’ll even reread the book to see if I can understand it better. Maybe I missed something in the first reading. I hope so. 8}

As one who knows..you can put your hand in most black womens hair.I wanted to challenge Chris Rock so badly about this but could not.What do people think we did before weaves.How did we have long hair.Hair is hair…just different degrees of texture.There are many many black women with beautiful silky hair and guess what,not one extension.This left the world thinking that we,black women can only have beautiful silky hair if we buy it and that just is not true.Speak..my ladies of beautiful hair..lol

Toe to Toe NY Times film review

NY Times rave review says the film “Toe To Toe,” which opens in NYC today, “is likely to languish in art-house limbo, far from the eyes of its ideal audience. That is a shame because Ms. Abt provides an unsually honest, compassionate and challengeing view of contemporary youth, neither sugarcoated nor prurient.” Has anyone heard of this film since it was shown in the competition at Sundance last year?

The line in the Fandango review that explains that the drama was “inspired by a study that indicates interracial friendships end at age 14 for approxiamtely 87%of American teenages” won’t help get this film an audience.

No one mentions the sex that may get it an R rating or the great dancing combined with very well recieved sound track with some Arab takes on hip hop. I think trying to get this movie on Oprah might be its only hope to be seen.
