This is for my independent learning project. I need to find out about why people like celebrities (or worship them) and why they will buy magazines/perfumes/books/etc with their favourite celebrity’s face on.
Any opinions would be helpful.
I know I do it because they are people I admire and look up to. I mean, they are just regular people like you and me, just with more money and fame.
But, I think there are a lot of people who indulge in the exploitation of celebrities. I mean, can I please look at a magazine or newspaper, without seeing something stupid about britney spears?
I think maybe the force of the media and what they put out there, make people become obsessed without a choice.
Because rest us just slaves with no chains in society, it gives us some dream to dream of.
Because People Are Wanna-Bees And The Study Everything About Them So They Can Be Like Them.
Because they are bored with they’re own lives. That is the only reason I can think of for someone to become obsessed with a complete stranger.
Well some people automatically think celebrities are selfish people who are nasty.
Some celebrities are really nice.
I like the nice celebrities and the hot ones too.

i have no clue because i rly dont care about there lives and stuff so they can go jump off a cliff for all i care…
I think it might be because some people would like to live that life. Celebrities have money, they are beautiful or they have the means to create a better profile of themselves, they are always surrounded by people-they are popular and everyone wants to get close to them. In addition, their lives is like a sort of exiting existence because they get to travel all over the world and seem to be in a perpetual party. On the other hand, reading and obsessing about a celebrity may give a person with a stressful life a moment in which they could forget about their troubles, if only for a few moments.
I tend to think that too…But now you know the boring and stupid world we live in…The time we waste on celebs we could be using that time to change and change the world…
Because average people that "worship" celebritities wish they had the material things and fame that the celebrities have. They would love the world to know their name, example, Madonna, 90% of the world probably doesn’t even know her last name, but you say the name Madonna, and everyone thinks of the ever evolving material girl that we know. Its like the saying that goes, if you cant have something, then you want it more.
u need some motivation 4 life……nah jus kidding…….but honestly Johnny Depp DOES light up my life!!!

They like to live vicariously through celebrities.
I think the reason most people are obsessed with celebrities is because their own lives are lacking in some way, and focusing on someone else’s life helps distract them from their own problems and issues. They can look at the celebrities life and either think that their life is so much better because they don’t have those kinds of problems, or they can fantasize that their life could be like that. Either way, it is a form of escapism.
People are goal oriented. When they see other people being successful, they want to try and emulate or immitate that success, down to the last detail. Also there is the power of charisma. Someone like Barack Obama knows how to speak and offend the least amount of people, while taking chances that bring the maximum amount of positive response. When people can do this consistently they often surpass the rest of us, who struggle to get past just the basics of getting by. Celebrities tend to be healthy, hardworking, organized, and productive. Everything they say and do is somehow always great. Drugs are sometimes the cause. Drugs can make people seem to be always joyous, but it’s artificial joy, not joy caused by hard work and enlightenment. It’s an interesting topic, good luck with your project.

Life wouldn’t be the same right now if people weren’t obsessed with celebrities. In the 20’s when film and stuff started becoming popular women and men started following fashions portrayed by celebrities.
Many people are obsessed with celebrities because wealth and material possessions attract most people. Also, gossip about a celebrity’s luxury (or problems) attract people. Many people put these people on pedestals and worship them (this gets blown out of proportion, because celebrities are just like normal people). I don’t see anything godly or admirable in most of the celebrities, these days. Most seem to have b**** fits when they are not noticed by us common people, or they are famous for no reason (have millionaire parents, but are not talented).
I ask myself this question all the time.
My guess is that their own lives aren’t very fulfilling and they are trying to fill that void with other peoples business. And who’s business is more readily available than a celebrity’s?
Who isn’t interested n celebs lives?! They have what everyone else dreams of having! I admit being very jealous of some celebs & I’m sure many other people are to! (:
Becoz they wish to be like them, have their clothes, meet rob pattinson and not suffer economic ressesion!

They aspire to be rich as well, but not really the famous part. They all want a life style that bores no limit to money
I am not interested in the slightest in what "celebrities" get up to in their own lives.
I am a big football(soccer in USA) fan but i am only interested in what they do on the pitch…not what they had for dinner last night or if they have just brought a new pair of shoes.
My answer to this is because they live a life that the fans & the may poorer class of person would love to live.
A lot of famous people (esp Big Brother people that get famous for doing absolutely nothing) get paid stupid amounts of cash for basically doing nothing
Yes I buy celebrity perfumes because I like the smell!! I buy the late Jade Goody’s perfume because I like the smell & she came from nothing & made it for just being herself. If she didn’t know the answer , she would say so.
OK she was on Big Brother (see above) BUT she worked hard afterwards
I think it is because they don’t have the same life as them. and it is really difficult for them. I think.
America doesn’t have royalty, so they need something to worship. I’m not really sure what makes people so crazy over other people who just happen to have fame and fortune. Maybe they just wish to be as popular and idolize them because they hold wealth.
Personally, I don’t understand it.
Because the real reason is they are jealous and want to be like them, I think it is sick really but, look who is talking, I want to be like Victoria Beckham x
because they r so cool and they have interseting lives that we like to stalk hehehehe lol

well not all are obsessed but i think they are interested in the live of celebrities cause they are famous and people want to know them much better.
A bit of escapism, glamour, something to aspire to. In all honesty the media thrust celebs in the faces of the public more than we actually want to see them.
because they have no lives themselves.
cuz there life and what they do is blowed out all ova the place and it is somewhat interesting..

because they are not as good as we think they are, and it looks like they have a whole bunch of friends, and it is easy for them to get a date, and they can buy anything they want, but its not as good as it looks (i know that because i ask them all the time)

Because some people make them out to be non human. And don’t realize that they are normal people with problems just like ours. Fantasy, dreamers, wishing of something better could happen to them, making them almost God like when they aren’t.

Well I think it is because the people who are obsessed see the celebrities as these ‘perfect’ people with tons of money, no problems and amazing looks but they forget that the celebrities are only human; they have the same ,if not more, amount of problems than any normal member of the public.
